The new 28001:2008 ISO standard has come out
In January 2008 the new 28001:2008 ISO standard’s second edition (OHSAS 18001:2007) came out, which consisted the requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety standards (OHSAS).
The most important changes comparing to the first edition are:
- The “incident” contains the concept of “accident”
- The importance of health is emphasized more efficiently
- Implement new technical terms, review of old ones and modernize each technical terms and definitions
- New requirements regarding the employee participation and consultancy together with the investigation of incidents
- The standard has been complemented with the “Eligibility evaluation” item
- Harmonization with the ISO 14001:2004, additionally the increased conciliation with the ISO 9001:2000 occurred towards the implementation of integrated systems.
The companies with ISO 280001:2008 need to convert to the new standard’s requirements by 30. June 2009.
